Docora's own “how it works” page is admirably clear: your original files stay on your device, but for search and chat, text excerpts are sent to cloud APIs — VoyageAI for embedding, Cohere for reranking, and OpenAI for the answer, which retains that data for 30 days. That is not a criticism; it is a common design, and Docora states it plainly. It is simply a different answer to “who else touches my documents?” than GI JI gives.
GI JI names nobody, because by default nobody else is in the path. Your documents, your index, your questions and your notes stay in a folder on your machine, and two AI models run locally.
